This chapter is about to understand the importance of project schedules and good project time management. In order to address what is time management, of course we can see the use of gantt chart for planning and tracking schedule imformation, to find the critical path and to describe how critical chain scheduling and the Program evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) affect schedule development.
Project Time Management Processes
Activity Definition:
identifying the project activities so hat stakeholders and project team members can perform in producing the project deliverables.
Activity Sequencing:
identifying and documenting the project activities
Activity Resource Estimating:
Estimate how many resource can use for project activities
Activity Duration Estimating:
estimate the number of work periods needed.
Schedule Development:
analyze activity sequences, activity resource estimate, and activity duration estimate
Schedule control:
schedule and manage the changes.
ACTIVITY: the project shedules grow out of the basic documents that initiate the project. It involves a developing a more cdetailed WBS and supporting explanations to understand all the work to be done.
Activity list: tabulation of activities to be included on a project schedule that included with:
- activity name
- activity identifier
- a brief description
3 types of Dependencies:
- Mandatory dependencies
- Discretionary dependencies
- External dependencies
Arrow Diagramming Method (ADM)
- Activity-on-arrow (AOA)
- represented by arrows
- nodes (start) circle (end) points of activities
- show finish to start dependencies
- network diagraming
- for a project: is a series of activities show the earliest time can be completed
- is longest path
- slack or float is the amount of time an activity can be delayed withoud delaying the suceeding activity.
